Mark Bradford: "Pickett's Charge"

Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC; Opened November 2017. Currently on view.

Curated by Evelyn C. Hankins

Comprised of eight monumental canvases each measuring 50 feet in length, Pickett’s Charge represents the largest single work produced by artist Mark Bradford to date. After months of planning in conjunction with Bradford’s studio, Hauser & Wirth Gallery, and the Hirshhorn, Ars Formulae facilitated and managed the packing, shipment, preparation, and installation of the canvases onsite over the course of a three-week period, working closely with the Hirshhorn’s technical and registration staff. Installation was accomplished using an innovative mechanical system, in order to conform exactly to the interior curvature of the museum’s unique architecture, while ensuring safety and longevity of the work.
