Mark Bradford: "Los Angeles"
July 27, 2019 - October 13, 2019
Curated by Diana Nawi
Los Angeles at the Long Museum, Shanghai is Mark Bradford’s largest museum exhibition to date. The centerpiece is Mithra: a monumental work originally installed for Prospect.1, New Orleans, in 2008. Mithra depicts a massive ark comprised of weathered and deteriorating plywood panels and ephemeral remnants of advertisements salvaged in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In collaboration with Mark Bradford Studio, Hauser & Wirth, Walla Walla Foundry, and curator Diana Nawi, Ars Formulae executed the design, engineering, and installation of Los Angeles from inception to completion. The show spans a wide spectrum of media: video, sculpture, and monumental canvases occupy the stark post-industrial architecture of the entire ground floor of the museum, showcasing the spectacular breadth of Bradford’s practice.
